Our History
From a bold idea to a trusted automation partner, Lineside’s journey is driven by innovation, craftsmanship, and a relentless focus on client success. Since our founding, we’ve grown from a two-person vision into a respected player in North America’s industrial automation landscape, delivering reliable, high-impact solutions for manufacturers of every scale.
2020: A Vision Takes Shape
Matt Veugen and Mike Badus founded Lineside with a bold mission—to become a trusted partner in automation across industries throughout North America and beyond. Backed by deep experience in controls and systems integration, they set out to do things differently: with precision, integrity, and relentless client focus.
2021: Early Milestones
Lineside launched its first product—the Alarm Logger—and began modernizing automation cells for a leading Tier 1 manufacturer. Riley joined as the first employee, marking the start of a growing team. That same year, two major automotive companies added Lineside to their approved vendor lists, recognizing the company’s rising impact.
2022: Building Foundations
A move to a new facility at 60 Ottawa Street South in Kitchener provided the space for growth. Lineside welcomed its first co-op student from the University of Waterloo and expanded to a team of 11 skilled professionals, laying the groundwork for bigger projects and broader reach.
2023: Diversifying Impact
Lineside delivered critical upgrades in the food packaging sector and spearheaded control systems for a national rail project. A major milestone came with the design of automation for the world’s first fully automated pool manufacturing facility—showcasing the team’s ability to lead in new and evolving industries.
2024: Innovation on a Global Stage
Innovation accelerated with control systems for a world-first nano-particle deposition machine and the commissioning of furnace tapping systems in Europe. Lineside was added to the vendor lists of two global engineering and steel producers, strengthening its international footprint and reinforcing its reputation for technical excellence.
2025: Growing the Team, Growing the Vision
Lineside proudly reaches a new milestone—expanding beyond a 20-person team of engineers, technologists, and project professionals. This growth reflects the company’s continued investment in people, culture, and capability as it takes on more complex, high-impact projects across North America and beyond.
